Fred Wu, MD, PhD

Dr. Wu spent most of his early years in Cupertino. He went to Yale for his undergraduate studies, and worked in biotech for two years. He then went to UC Davis for his MD/PhD, where he got married to a now child psychiatrist and had his 1st of 3 kids. Dr. Wu's original medical school classmates helped convince him to come down to San Diego to a community program (Scripps Mercy Internal Medicine), where he completed his residency, was offered a job as a hospitalist, and five years later, offered the opportunity to form a new hospitalist group at Scripps Mercy. Three years later, the group is now the largest at Mercy and Dr. Wu is currently Chief of Medicine, actively involved in administrative tasks and politics, and sees more underserved patients. His family took priority over an academic career and he is sure he is a happier person for it.
